Sunil Kumar wins bronze in Greco-Roman wrestling at Asian Games

Indian Greco-Roman wrestler Sunil Kumar won a bronze medal in the men’s 87kg category at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. This victory marks a significant comeback for the 27-year-old athlete following knee surgery and a rehabilitation process supported by the IIS.

Kumar secured the medal by defeating Philippines’ Caelum Johnston Roberts with a 9-0 victory based on technical superiority. With this win, he becomes the first Indian wrestler to win two Greco-Roman wrestling medals at the Asian Games, having previously won bronze in the 2022 edition.

Reflecting on his achievement, Kumar expressed pride in reaching the podium despite his initial goal of winning gold. He noted that after securing the medal, his first action was to call his mother to share the news.
