Sunny Deol's 'Batwara 1947' Receives CBFC Clearance Ahead of August 14 Release

The Indian Central Board of Film Certification has approved Sunny Deol’s historical drama "Batwara 1947" without any cuts. The Mumbai regional office issued an A certificate on July 23, 2026, confirming a runtime of 2 hours and 25 minutes.

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the film is adapted from Asghar Wajahat’s play “Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai”. It follows a Mohajir family that settles in Lahore and encounters an elderly Hindu woman who refuses to leave her ancestral home. The cast includes Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and others, with music by A. R. Rahman and lyrics by Javed Akhtar. A new poster featuring Lord Krishna and a lit diya has been released, and the film is slated for worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026, coinciding with India’s Independence Day.
