Spotify to label AI-generated artist profiles with new badge

Spotify will introduce a new “AI Persona” badge starting in mid-September to identify artist profiles whose public identities—such as names and images—are generated by artificial intelligence rather than representing real people. The initiative aims to increase transparency and maintain listener trust as synthetic content becomes more prevalent on streaming platforms.

The badge will be visible on artist profiles, in search results, and next to tracks in playlists. While artists can voluntarily disclose their status via Spotify for Artists, the company will also use human review and AI tools to identify and label profiles that appear to be artificial, particularly those reaching high audience thresholds.

As a consequence of this labeling, “AI Persona” profiles will be excluded by default from Spotify’s editorial and algorithmic recommendations, such as Discover Weekly and Release Radar, unless a user explicitly follows the profile. This measure focuses on the identity of the artist rather than the tools used to produce the music; real musicians using AI for composition will not necessarily receive the label.
