Reports indicate the federal government is considering a $15 million package to support SunRice’s manufacturing capacity, specifically for a rice cakes production facility. This funding would likely involve SunRice matching the investment to upgrade machinery. This proposal follows the company's recent announcement of 78 job redundancies at its Leeton and Deniliquin mills due to declining water supplies.

SunRice emphasized that while the engagement is constructive, a viable future for the industry requires a multifaceted approach, including more balanced water allocations and increased support for value-added manufacturing.
