Sunsari district communal clash kills one, sparks curfew in Nepal
A violent clash between Hindu and Muslim youths in Kaptanganj of Devanaganj Rural Municipality, Sunsari district, escalated into a fatal encounter after a dispute over a DJ playing during water‑collection rituals and a lingering religious flag. Police and the Armed Police Force intervened, firing warning shots; one person was pronounced dead and several injured.
The incident triggered protests and stone‑throwing across multiple Tarai districts, prompting authorities to impose curfews in Sunsari, Sarlahi, Parsa and Janakpur. President Ramchandra Paudel called for calm, urging political parties and the public to preserve social harmony while security forces continue to stabilise the affected areas.
