Sunscreen Overlooked in Skincare Routines and Scalp Care
A recent analysis of consumer‑submitted photos shows that sunscreen products appear on only about 55 % of multi‑step skincare shelves, even though moisturizers, serums and cleansers are present on 85 % or more of shelves. The gap is larger among shoppers aged 55 and older, where nearly half of the photographed shelves lack an SPF product, despite the heightened need for UV protection to prevent photo‑aging and to safeguard results of in‑office treatments.
Dermatologists and hair‑care experts warn that the same neglect extends to the scalp. UV exposure can cause sunburn, brittle hair, accelerated follicle aging, increased hair loss and a higher risk of scalp skin cancers such as melanoma. Professionals such as Dr. Sturnham recommend dedicated scalp sunscreens or mist products to protect both hair and skin on the head.
