Sunway Lagoon roller coaster incident triggers DOSH investigation
The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is conducting a detailed forensic investigation into a roller-coaster incident at Sunway Lagoon that injured 10 visitors. The incident occurred on a Saturday at approximately 9:00 PM.
DOSH Director-General Hazlina Yon stated that the department is evaluating whether targeted inspections of high-risk machinery at theme parks nationwide are necessary. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, employers are responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of the public and their employees. If investigations reveal breaches of the Act, enforcement action will be taken.
Sunway Group founder Jeffrey Cheah noted that authorities are investigating the matter and suggested the cause might be metal fatigue. Police have officially ruled out foul play in the incident. Sunway Lagoon management has expressed regret and stated they are providing medical assistance and support to the affected visitors and their families.
