SuPer calls to keep title protection for Finnish assistant nurses
The Finnish Union of Assistant Nurses (SuPer) has submitted a statement to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health on the draft professional personnel legislation. The union urges that the title‑protection for assistant nurses (lähihoitajat) be retained, arguing that it "safeguards client and patient safety". SuPer also stresses the need for employers to verify language proficiency throughout employment and calls for state‑funded language training and testing for health‑care staff.
SuPer chair Päivi Inberg said the reform, which will continue beyond the election cycle, should ensure that both assistant nurses and support staff such as care assistants meet consistent language standards, linking these measures directly to the quality of health and social‑care services.
