Super League and NRL officials negotiate potential partnership

Super League officials are currently in Australia to attempt to revive a potential investment and partnership deal with the NRL. While negotiations have been ongoing for over a year, disagreements regarding logistics, finance, and structural formats have prevented a formal agreement.

Following a rejected first offer in August, the NRL recently submitted a second bid of $57 million to RL Commercial. Although a previous October 15 deadline passed without formal confirmation, reports indicate that talks remain active. Rhodri Jones, Managing Director of RL Commercial, is reportedly in Australia to discuss the investment and television rights.

Broadcasting concerns have also emerged, as Sky Sports is expected to reduce its coverage from seven matches to three per week. The NRL is reportedly working with Super League and DAZN to address the coverage of the remaining fixtures. While a deal for the 2027 season appears unlikely given the proximity of the pre-season, both parties are targeting a potential agreement for 2028.
