Super League of Malawi awards Masters FC victory after match abandonment

The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has awarded Masters FC a 3–0 victory following the abandonment of their FDH Bank Premiership match against Karonga United at Bingu National Stadium. The match was interrupted in the 78th minute due to a floodlight failure, at which point Masters FC held a 4–1 lead.

While power was restored after 25 minutes, Karonga United declined to return to the pitch. Consequently, SULOM applied forfeiture provisions under Article 23 of its regulations, awarding the three points to Masters FC and announcing that Karonga United will face disciplinary charges for causing the abandonment. SULOM is currently investigating the cause of the blackout and the adequacy of the stadium's backup power systems.

Karonga United General Secretary Ramzy Simwaka disputed the decision, stating the club did not violate regulations. Simwaka argued the refusal to play stemmed from a lack of guidance regarding the fault and noted a prior agreement regarding fuel availability for power outages, whereas officials reported the failure was due to a short circuit.
