Super Mario 64 becomes playable via YouTube interactive video
A fan-made project has enabled users to play Super Mario 64 directly through YouTube by utilizing the platform’s 360-degree video player and custom-designed subtitles. Rather than using a traditional emulator, the experience functions by linking a vast sequence of pre-recorded video clips. When a player makes a choice, they are directed to the corresponding video segment, creating the illusion of real-time control.
To achieve the full effect, users must enable subtitles during playback, which are designed to track Mario’s movements. The interactive experience covers various stages of the game, including Bob-omb Battlefield, Bowser’s world, and the final battle against Bowser. This follows previous community experiments, such as a Mario Kart project that allowed players to navigate tracks via YouTube videos.
