Super Mario Galaxy PC port nears release after successful decompilation
The modding community Luma’s Workshop has successfully completed the full decompilation of the Nintendo Wii classic Super Mario Galaxy. This project, titled AstroCore, aims to release a native PC port in the near future.
Unlike traditional emulation, which uses software to mimic hardware, this decompilation process recreates the original source code. This approach allows for a native version that avoids typical emulation performance losses and enables modern enhancements such as ultrawide resolution support, high frame rates, and improved control mapping for keyboard and mouse.
The team confirmed that the decompilation was performed entirely by humans without the use of generative artificial intelligence. Following the organization of the current files, the group has also announced plans to begin the decompilation of Super Mario Galaxy 2.
