Super Troopers marks 25 years with release of third installment
The comedy troupe Broken Lizard, formed at Colgate University, celebrates 25 years since its breakout film "Super Troopers" (2001). Made for under $3 million, the movie became a cult hit, eventually grossing about $23 million on home video. The group later funded "Super Troopers 2" through crowdfunding and kept the franchise alive.
Searchlight Pictures will release "Super Troopers 3" on August 7, marking the series' 25‑year anniversary. Director Jay Chandrasekhar said, "It’s kind of a show‑business miracle to be able to make eight or nine movies with your friends from college." The new film continues the story of the juvenile Vermont state troopers that first won audiences with their mustaches, maple syrup jokes, and off‑beat humor.
