Super yachts worth billions dock along Italy’s coasts

A 107‑metre Benetti superyacht called MAR (formerly LANA) was sighted anchored just off the Ostia promenade near Rome. Built in 2020 with Rolls‑Royce diesel‑electric propulsion, the vessel can accommodate 16 guests and a crew of 34, and is valued at about $200 million. It has previously hosted high‑profile guests such as Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos for private events.

In the summer of 2026 the north‑east coast of Sardinia saw a surge of ultra‑large yachts arriving in its waters. Among them were the 155‑metre Al Said, originally owned by the Omani royal family and now linked to Qatar; the 155‑metre A+ (formerly Topaz), belonging to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi and Manchester City; the 141‑metre Yas, owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan; and the 122‑metre Kismet, owned by US entrepreneur Shahid Khan. According to the Cipnes research centre, 21 super‑ and giga‑yachts identified in Sardinian waters have a combined estimated value of about $2.55 billion and are owned by individuals with a cumulative net worth exceeding $416 billion.
