Supergirl 2026 film releases June 26, slated for HBO Max streaming later
The new Supergirl movie, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, opened in theaters on June 26, 2026. It is the second installment in DC Studios' new DC Universe, following 2025’s Superman, and adapts the "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" comic series. The film is playing in standard and premium formats such as Dolby, IMAX, RealD and 4DX.
Warner Bros. Pictures plans to make the movie available for digital rental or purchase a few months after its theatrical run, with an expected streaming debut on the Warner‑owned HBO Max service, likely in August or September 2026. The film will not appear on Netflix.
Actress Milly Alcock, who portrays Kara Zor‑El, has spoken about using a technique she calls “drunk acting” to access raw emotion for the role, emphasizing the physical and emotional demands of playing the iconic heroine.
