Supergirl film posts record low fourth‑weekend earnings, likely a box‑office loss

The DC Studios release Supergirl has performed poorly at the box office, posting a 62% drop in its fourth weekend and pulling in an estimated $1.4 million domestically – the lowest fourth‑weekend haul for any film in the DCEU or new DCU. After earning $119.3 million worldwide in three weeks, the movie is on track to finish its theatrical run with less than $125 million globally, far short of the $300‑$375 million break‑even target, indicating a potential loss exceeding $125 million.

The film also faced production challenges, including extensive reshoots and changes to its soundtrack and antagonist, which critics say contributed to a disjointed final product. Competition from major family releases such as Toy Story 5 and Minions & Monsters, combined with a diminished promotional campaign, further hampered its performance. Warner Bros. and DC Studios have not publicly signaled a major strategic shift in response.

These financial results underscore the difficulty of launching a new superhero franchise under the DCU umbrella, especially when competing against established blockbusters and when internal production issues affect the final product.
