Supergirl film starring Milly Alcock launches worldwide
Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios released the new solo Supergirl film on June 24‑26 2026. The movie, directed by Craig Gillespie, stars Australian actress Milly Alcock as Kara Zor‑El and features Jason Momoa as Lobo, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Knoll and Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem. The story follows the Kryptonian survivor on a space‑bound quest for revenge and to save her pet Krypto.
The launch was supported by a global marketing push: Samsung partnered with Warner Bros. for Art Store digital‑art collections and U.S. and U.K. sweepstakes; Fortnite added a Supergirl hero skin, cosmetics and Krypto sidekick; Warner Bros. Games released Supergirl content in the mobile game Injustice 2. Cinema chains in Brazil, Italy, the Philippines, Mexico and other markets ran special screenings and giveaways, such as a limited‑edition Krypto plush charm.
Critical reaction has been mixed. Reviews praise Alcock’s performance but criticize the script and pacing; scores range from mid‑50s on Rotten Tomatoes to harsher negative takes from some critics. The film does not include a post‑credits scene, contrary to superhero‑genre expectations. Internally, Warner Bros. has lowered its box‑office “win” benchmark to $300 million worldwide, well below the $500 million target hinted at by analysts.
Overall, the release marks a significant step in the new DC Universe, positioning Supergirl as a cornerstone for future franchise entries.
