Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow ending altered in film adaptation

Ruthye, a 14‑year‑old heroine created by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, debuted in the 2021 comic *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1*. The storyline follows her quest for vengeance against Krem, the murderer of her father, and culminates with an elderly Ruthye preventing Supergirl from killing Krem; she later strikes him with a cane but does not end his life, emphasizing a theme that revenge is unhealthy.

For the movie adaptation, writer Ana Nogueira misunderstood this comic conclusion. Believing Ruthye had killed Krem, she chose to have Supergirl deliver the fatal blow, thereby removing the comic’s intended moral resolution and changing the ending dramatically.

The discrepancy was highlighted in interviews with Variety and the Comic Book Couples Counseling Podcast, where both Nogueira and King clarified the original ending and its intended meaning.
