Superintendencia de Bancos launches debt prevention and financial health measures
The Superintendencia de Bancos (SB) has launched a comprehensive strategy to improve financial well-being and prevent consumer over-indebtedness. As part of this initiative, the SB released a guide on financial health and user well-being, providing practical recommendations such as evaluating credit necessity, reviewing repayment capacity, and comparing financial products before signing contracts.
The strategy also emphasizes ethical debt collection practices. The SB has urged financial institutions to ensure that credit recovery processes are conducted with courtesy and respect, protecting the dignity and tranquility of debtors.
Additionally, citizens can access financial information regarding their own accounts, those of companies they manage, or deceased relatives through the ProUsuario financial information service. To access confidential data such as account balances or contract statuses, applicants must provide legal proof of ownership or authorization, including valid identification and, in the case of legal entities, current commercial registration certificates.
