Supermarket dating trends spread from Spain to Finland
Social media trends are transforming supermarket shopping into a method for meeting potential partners. Following a viral trend in Spain during the summer of 2024, where singles placed an upside-down pineapple in their shopping carts at Mercadona stores between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM, a similar phenomenon has emerged in Finland.
In Finland, the practice at Prisma supermarkets involves using a pink shopping basket as a signal of interest. Unlike the Spanish trend, which relied on a specific fruit and a designated time window, the Finnish method uses color and can be utilized at any time. These low-barrier social cues allow individuals to signal openness to conversation without the need for dating applications or formal introductions.
