Supermarket sector faces labor shortage in Brazil

The supermarket sector in Brazil is facing a significant labor shortage, with approximately 35,000 job openings currently available in the state of São Paulo alone. Erlon Ortega, president of APAS, noted that the industry's primary challenge has shifted from training workers to simply finding available personnel to be trained.

This scarcity is linked to changing labor market dynamics and the evolving expectations of younger generations. In response, companies are modernizing work formats, such as adjusting schedules and increasing flexibility. Additionally, many retailers are moving away from requiring previous experience, instead focusing on intensive internal training programs to prepare new staff for daily operations. The Escola APAS is playing a key role in this effort by providing theoretical and practical courses to develop the existing workforce.
