Supermarkets in Germany offer cash withdrawal services

Major German supermarkets and discounters, including Rewe and Lidl, offer cash withdrawal services at their checkout counters as an alternative to traditional ATMs. These services allow customers to withdraw money while paying for groceries, often avoiding the high fees associated with third-party ATMs, which can average around 4 euros in Germany.

At Lidl, customers can withdraw between 10 and 200 euros per transaction, provided they meet a minimum purchase value of 0.99 euros. The service is available at staffed cash registers using Girocard, Visa, or Mastercard, including contactless methods like Apple Pay and Google Pay. Withdrawals are issued in 10-euro increments. At Rewe, the minimum purchase requirement is as low as one cent.

To use these services, customers must notify the cashier of the desired withdrawal amount before completing the payment process. These supermarket services are not available at self-service checkouts.
