Supermassive Games announces up to 75 layoffs in third restructuring

Supermassive Games, the British developer known for horror titles such as ‘Until Dawn’ and ‘The Quarry’, has announced a new redundancy consultation process that could result in up to 75 job losses. The studio stated the move is a “necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company.”

This announcement marks the third round of staff reductions for the Guildford-based studio in less than three years. Previous cuts occurred in early 2024, affecting approximately 90 employees, and in July 2025, which involved roughly 36 staff members. The studio has also seen leadership changes, including the departure of CEO Robert Henrysson in June.

The restructuring follows the May 2026 release of ‘Directive 8020’, the first title in ‘The Dark Pictures Anthology’ to be self-published by the studio. While the company has not explicitly linked the layoffs to the game's performance, reports indicate the title received mixed reviews from critics and users on platforms like Steam.
