Super Micro Raises $7 B to Meet $39 B AI Server Order Surge
Super Micro Computer announced a $7 billion equity and equity‑linked financing program to fund the purchase of components needed for an estimated $39 billion backlog of advanced AI server orders from more than 20 customers. The raising consists of a $5 billion underwritten offering split between $1.25 billion of common stock and $3.75 billion of depositary shares, plus a separate $2 billion at‑the‑market (ATM) program slated to begin no earlier than the third quarter of 2026. Proceeds will be used to secure high‑performance GPUs and other parts, with additional allocations for debt repayment, working capital and capital expenditures. The announcement triggered a sharp sell‑off in the stock, with shares falling roughly 9% in after‑hours trading and up to 13% the next day as investors reacted to dilution concerns. The financing is aimed at scaling production capacity quickly enough to satisfy the rapid growth in AI infrastructure demand across hyperscalers and cloud providers.
