NVIDIA and Nokia partner to transform telecom networks into AI platforms

NVIDIA and Nokia, in collaboration with several global telecom operators, are advancing Artificial Intelligence-Radio Access Networks (AI-RAN) to convert traditional mobile infrastructure into distributed intelligence platforms. This initiative aims to integrate AI directly into signal processing to improve spectrum efficiency and prepare for 6G connectivity.

Key milestones include T-Mobile completing the world’s first AI-RAN voice call on a live commercial network in Bellevue, Washington. Other major operators, including BT, Deutsche Telekom, Elisa, Orange, and SoftBank, are conducting trials or preparing for deployments. These tests focus on running voice, mobile data, and vision AI on shared, accelerated computing hardware.

The ecosystem also involves Supermicro, which provides AI-optimized infrastructure to support Nokia’s RAN software and NVIDIA’s Aerial RAN Computer (ARC) platform. The goal is to enable low-latency AI services, such as autonomous network operations and enterprise edge inferencing, directly at the network edge.
