Superyacht market shifts as charter demand drives industry growth

The superyacht industry is experiencing significant shifts in ownership and usage patterns, driven largely by a booming charter market. Projections suggest the charter sector could grow from $9.69 billion in 2026 to as much as $32.4 billion by 2035, representing a growth rate of over 8%.

This economic trend is influencing vessel design and construction. The 40 to 60-meter segment is currently a central market driver, as international clients seek a balance between performance, autonomy, and charter profitability. There is also a notable rise in luxury multihulls, exploration yachts, and prestige sailing vessels.

Major shipyards are preparing for high demand, with many order books already filled through 2028 or 2029. Upcoming showcases, such as the Monaco Yacht Show, will feature significant new builds, including Lürssen’s 102-meter Nixie, Damen Yachting’s Pangea and QU2, and Sanlorenzo’s Silver Fox.
