Supetar elderly care home operates despite official ban
An elderly care home in Supetar on the island of Brač, operated by Domus Vitae, has continued to function for four months despite an official ban on its operations. The facility has been removed from the official registry and is legally prohibited from providing accommodation services.
In addition to the operating ban, the institution is facing bankruptcy proceedings. The property owner, Jurica Vrandečić, reports that the facility has not paid rent for three years and the lease agreement expired in February. Despite these legal and financial issues, 34 residents continue to live in the facility, paying approximately 1,000 euros per month for their stay.
Mr. Vrandečić expressed frustration that he is paying rental taxes on income he is not receiving, while the facility continues to generate revenue from residents. He noted that while he does not wish to evict the residents, the lack of institutional enforcement regarding the ban leaves the safety and legal status of the residents in question.
