Supetar Mayor Ivana Marković Faces Criticism After Playground Hoop Collapse Injures Teen

A metal basketball‑hoop structure fell on a 16‑year‑old boy at a newly built playground in Splitska on the island of Brač, Croatia. The teenager suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital Centre in Split, where he was kept for observation.

Local HDZ officials accused mayor Ivana Marković of failing to ensure the playground had proper safety permits and oversight. The municipality announced an investigation into the cause of the collapse, requested statements from the construction contractor and supervisors, and closed the playground facilities pending additional safety checks. Mayor Marković expressed regret over the incident and wished the injured teen a swift recovery.
