Supplementary Health Congress debates innovation and sustainability in Brazil

The XIII Legal Congress of Supplementary Health, held in Brasília, addressed the challenges of balancing innovation, access, and sustainability within the healthcare sector. The event brought together representatives from the Judiciary, the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS), and various industry specialists.

Key discussions focused on the incorporation of new technologies and the increasing judicialization of health services. Participants explored Risk-Sharing Agreements (ACR) as a mechanism to manage the high costs of new therapies. These contracts may include provisions for discounts, spending limits, and payments conditioned on clinical outcomes to ensure system sustainability while maintaining care quality.

Denizar Vianna, executive superintendent of the Institute for Studies of Supplementary Health (IESS), noted that regulation, payment models, and care organization must advance in a coordinated manner to protect beneficiary access and system effectiveness.
