Supply chain resilience faces challenges in China and Southeast Asia

New research indicates that while logistics decision-makers in the China and ASEAN regions are increasingly adopting multimodal routes to combat disruptions, true supply chain resilience remains limited. Although trade between China and ASEAN exceeded US$1.05 trillion last year, 92% of logistics leaders report that diversified routing is only partially implemented across their networks.

Studies show that very few companies—between 0% and 2%—have achieved high levels of routing implementation, partner connectivity, public-authority integration, or end-to-end visibility. Experts suggest that simply adding route options is insufficient without adequate capacity, established commercial arrangements, and effective handover processes.

In Vietnam, the logistics landscape is evolving as the country integrates deeper into international trade. While northern Vietnam serves as an industrial hub connected to China, the south acts as a major gateway for international cargo. Ongoing infrastructure investments, such as the Long Thanh International Airport and the planned Can Gio International Transshipment Port, are expected to reshape regional connectivity and support smarter, more intelligent supply chains.
