Morocco analyzes strategic sovereignty and Mediterranean geopolitical shifts

The Policy Center for the New South (PCNS) and the HEC Paris Geopolitics Center presented the twentieth volume of their Strategic Dialogues in Rabat. The publication examines the securing of essential infrastructures and strategic resources, alongside cooperation and rivalry dynamics in the Mediterranean.

A key focus of the discussion was the vulnerability of Moroccan industry to international supply chain disruptions. Specifically, experts highlighted the risks regarding sulfur, an essential input for phosphoric acid production and the phosphate fertilizer industry. Morocco reportedly imports approximately 9 million tons of sulfur annually, and international market volatility has seen prices surge from 230 dollars to peaks of 900 dollars per ton.

The dialogues also addressed the importance of port infrastructure and the Atlantic Initiative in repositioning international trade routes amidst shifting global power dynamics.
