Forj Medical opens $15 million medical device plant in Costa Rica
Forj Medical, a global medical device contract design and manufacturing organization (CDMO), has inaugurated a new production plant in the Evolution Free Trade Zone in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The project represents a $15 million investment.
The nearly 5,000 square meter facility is equipped with ISO Class 8 cleanrooms and utilizes both automated and manual assembly lines. The plant will manufacture finished medical devices and subassemblies for various healthcare applications, including surgical navigation, electrophysiology, diabetes management, drug delivery, and cardiovascular therapies.
Currently employing over 50 people, the company expects to expand its workforce in engineering, finance, manufacturing, and logistics by the end of 2026, with further growth planned for 2027. Operations Director Ward Sokoloski stated that the facility is a key part of the company’s global supply chain strategy, aimed at increasing capacity and improving operational resilience by providing production closer to key markets.
