Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution criticizes Venice Film Festival conduct
The Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in Iran has issued a statement criticizing recent comments and behaviors at the Venice Film Festival, specifically referencing Laleh Marzban. The Council described the conduct as providing a “one-sided narrative of the proud Iranian society” and failing to uphold the national responsibility of art.
The statement condemned the reduction of the image of Iranian women to Western stereotypes and criticized the failure to address the suffering of Iranian women and children during the Iran-Iraq War. The Council emphasized that while respecting creative freedom and the right to criticism, international platforms should be used for a “powerful, dignified, and worthy narration of national identity” rather than ignoring the realities and connections to the Iranian people.
