Supreme Court Bar Association unveils portrait of former Law Minister A K Sen

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) held a ceremony at the Supreme Court’s Library No. 1 to unveil a portrait of the late senior advocate and former Union Law Minister Ashok Kumar Sen. The event was prompted by a request from Sen’s family, noting that no portrait of him existed in the Court despite a chamber block bearing his name.

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant attended as chief guest and praised Sen as a “legal titan” whose legacy bridges law and governance. Senior Advocate Harish Salve delivered the keynote address, recalling Sen’s education at Presidency College, the London School of Economics and Gray’s Inn, his editorship of the Calcutta Law Journal, and his long service with the SCBA. SCBA President Vikas Singh highlighted the importance of the rule of law and the need to honour such figures.

Kant said the new portrait will join those of other notable jurists on the Supreme Court walls, serving as a reminder of Sen’s contribution to the nation’s legal and legislative heritage.
