Supreme Court considers language policy relief for CBSE students

The Supreme Court of India is considering a one-time exemption for current Class 6 students from the three-language formula requirement, which would mandate a third-language Board examination in Class 10. Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta informed the court that the government will consult officials regarding this potential relief. The court also addressed the classification of English, noting the petitioners' request to treat it as a non-native or foreign language, while the Centre expressed concerns regarding its treatment as an indigenous language.

In related administrative developments, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has notified affiliated schools that the registration process for Classes 9 and 11, along with the submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) for Classes 10 and 12, will commence shortly. The board has urged schools to verify student details, including names, dates of birth, and subject codes, to prevent errors that have caused difficulties in previous examination cycles.
