Supreme Court grants Rajpal Yadav extension to deposit funds

The Supreme Court of India has granted Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav a two-week extension to deposit funds as a condition to avoid arrest in an ongoing cheque bounce case. A bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant expressed skepticism regarding the actor's reliability, with the Chief Justice remarking, “He’s perfect in doing drama and acting in Bollywood, he’s doing the same thing in Court also.”

The legal dispute stems from a 2010 loan of approximately ₹5 crore obtained from Murli Projects Pvt Ltd for the production of Yadav's directorial debut, ‘Ata Pata Laapata’. Following the film's lack of commercial success, the unpaid amount, including interest, reportedly grew to nearly ₹9 crore. The case involves multiple agreements and security cheques related to the failed film production.

As part of the provisional relief, the court has extended Yadav's exemption from surrendering until October 5, provided he complies with the deposit. Additionally, the court has ordered Yadav to surrender his passport to the registry.
