Supreme Court of India Advocate-on-Record examination details
The Supreme Court of India has notified a limited Advocate-on-Record (AOR) examination scheduled for December 19, 20, 22, and 23, 2026. This specific examination is restricted to candidates eligible to re-appear under Regulations 11(i) or 11(ii), based on examination results from June 2025 or earlier. The application deadline for this session was October 15, 2026.
An Advocate-on-Record holds the exclusive authority to act and file pleadings, petitions, and applications on behalf of litigants before the Supreme Court. While other advocates may appear and argue cases, the procedural responsibility for filing documents rests with the AOR. To qualify, candidates must complete a recognized law degree, undergo specialized training, and pass an examination that assesses procedural knowledge, drafting ability, professional ethics, and familiarity with case law.
