Supreme Court of India dismisses son's appeal in parental property dispute

The Supreme Court of India has dismissed an appeal filed by a son involved in a property dispute with his parents. A bench comprising Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice NK Singh ruled in favor of the parents, who are the sole owners of the property.

The dispute arose after the parents permitted their son and his wife to occupy the first floor of their home as licensees without rent. The parents alleged that the son and his wife harassed them and attempted to pressure them into transferring the property ownership using fabricated documents. Following these actions, the parents filed an FIR, severed relations via a public notice, and terminated the occupancy license.

While dismissing the appeal, Justice Sharma issued a moral rebuke, orally advising the son to seek forgiveness. “You should go and touch your mother's feet and apologise. Seek apology for all your sins,” the Justice stated, emphasizing the importance of the mother. The ruling upholds previous decisions by the Trial Court and the Delhi High Court, which found the son and his wife to be mere licensees obligated to vacate the premises.
