Supreme Court of Justice approves strategy to reduce case backlog

The Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) has approved an institutional development strategy for the 2026-2030 period aimed at reducing the backlog of thousands of pending cases and accelerating judicial proceedings. At the beginning of the year, the court faced over seven thousand pending cases, which was double its annual capacity.

To address this, the strategy focuses on digital transformation, including the full implementation of electronic files and the introduction of advanced AI-based search and triage systems. The measures are intended to reduce bureaucracy and the workload of judicial assistants.

Additionally, the CSJ approved new regulations for its organization and operation. These rules establish that cases with significant social impact, systemic relevance, or those involving vulnerable persons—including risks to life or health—will receive priority examination. The court also plans to improve public communication by publishing accessible summaries of landmark decisions and conducting annual corruption risk assessments.
