Supreme Court orders crackdown on illegal coaching centres in Jaipur

The Supreme Court of India, hearing a case on unauthorized constructions, flagged the continued operation of coaching institutes in commercial areas of Jaipur despite the availability of dedicated multi‑storey relocation buildings. A bench led by Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and R. Mahadevan directed the Jaipur Development Authority to submit, within three weeks, detailed remedial measures and warned that any allocation of the earmarked buildings to third parties would remain subject to the Court’s final orders.

The ruling is part of a broader pan‑India drive against illegal constructions and violations of Master Plans, following earlier incidents such as a fatal building collapse in Lucknow. The Court also gave states and union territories a deadline to deposit enhanced costs for compliance, emphasizing strict enforcement of building bye‑laws and land‑use regulations.
