Supreme Court panel to inspect Aravalli conservation areas in Rajasthan

A Supreme Court-appointed High-Powered Committee (HPC) is scheduled to visit the Vagad region of Rajasthan from October 11 to 13 to inspect the Aravalli mountain range. The committee will examine the Paldeval-Sarkan area in Dungarpur district and the Kevadiya-Kothara area in Banswara district.

The inspection aims to assess the ecological status, forest conservation, land use, and the impact of mining activities on local communities, specifically tribal populations. This visit follows a recent tour of the Aravalli region in Gujarat.

Chaired by the Director General of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), the five-member committee was established to independently review the definition and demarcation of the Aravalli hills. The panel is required to submit a comprehensive report to the Supreme Court by November 30. The Rajasthan government has mobilized the Forest Department to coordinate field inspections and stakeholder interactions during the visit.
