Supreme Court postpones Vinay Kulkarni bail hearing

The Supreme Court of India has postponed the hearing of appeals challenging the Karnataka High Court's decision to grant bail and stay the sentence of Congress leader Vinay Kulkarni. The case pertains to the 2016 murder of BJP leader Yogesh Gowda in Dharwad. The CBI and the victim's brother have filed the appeals, with the CBI arguing that stays on sentences for public servants should be rare. The hearing is now scheduled for October 27.

In other regional developments, the Karnataka government has extended the deadline for verifying beneficiaries of the Gruha Jyothi electricity scheme until October 31. This extension aims to allow power companies to complete data collection and documentation via the Seva Sindhu software to ensure benefits reach eligible residents.

Additionally, a case involving alleged funding for Naxal activities by the US-based Timothy Initiative (TTI) Christian missionary organization has been transferred from Bengaluru to Chhattisgarh. The transfer follows investigations showing funds were withdrawn and used in Chhattisgarh banks. Meanwhile, in Kunigal, NDA candidate K. M. Suresh has called for voters to reject the current Congress administration in the upcoming graduates' constituency elections, citing corruption.
