Supreme Court questions BCCI governance under National Sports Governance Act

The Supreme Court of India has questioned why the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its affiliated state cricket associations should not be governed by the National Sports Governance Act 2025.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana directed legal representatives for the BCCI and state units to seek instructions regarding the Act. The inquiry specifically focuses on whether the terms and conditions of service for office bearers within these cricket bodies should align with the standards established by the new legislation.

This development is part of a long-standing legal process regarding the administration of cricket in India, stemming from a petition filed in 2014. The court has previously overseen significant reforms, including the implementation of recommendations from the Justice R.M. Lodha committee to restructure the organization and its constitution.
