The Supreme Court of India has invoked its extraordinary powers under Article 142 to quash all First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against student protesters involved in demonstrations regarding the NEET exam paper leak. The protests, which took place between July 20 and July 25, led to legal actions in Delhi, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Assam. The court directed that similar FIRs registered in any other state or Union Territory regarding these specific incidents be treated as closed and that no new FIRs be filed for events occurring during that period.

However, the legal reprieve does not apply to all participants. The court granted Delhi Police permission to file fresh FIRs against 2,873 individuals identified as having serious criminal antecedents, specifically for allegations involving bodily harm or destruction of property.

Additionally, the court ordered the central government to establish a pan-India compensation framework within three months for the families of students who died by suicide in connection with the NEET exam issues. Following the court's ruling and government assurances, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) announced the cancellation of its planned protest march in Delhi, originally scheduled for September 5.
