Supreme Court rejects Trump's request to reconsider E. Jean Carroll verdict FAST-MOVING

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a petition from Donald Trump to reconsider its previous decision to deny his appeal of a $5 million jury verdict in favor of writer E. Jean Carroll. The 2023 verdict found Trump liable for the sexual abuse and defamation of Carroll, stemming from an incident in a Manhattan department store dressing room during the 1990s.

Trump has already paid the judgment, which totaled approximately $5.6 million including interest. His legal team had argued that the trial was unfair and that certain evidentiary rulings were improper.

This ruling does not resolve all legal disputes between the two parties. The Supreme Court is still considering a separate appeal regarding an $83.3 million defamation verdict awarded to Carroll in 2024. In that case, Trump and the Justice Department argue that his statements were made within his official capacity as president and are therefore protected by presidential immunity.
