Supreme Court rules against presidential tariff authority
In the case of Learning Resources v. Trump, the United States Supreme Court ruled in a 6-3 decision that President Donald Trump lacks the legal authority to levy certain tariffs via executive order.
The 31-page ruling, authored by Chief Justice John G. Roberts, clarifies that under the U.S. Constitution, the power to tax belongs to Congress rather than the President. This decision stands in contrast to previous rulings, such as Trump v. the United States, which granted presidential immunity for official acts.
