Supreme Court stays CMRL-Exalogic investigation for seven days

The Supreme Court of India has issued a seven-day stay on the vigilance investigation into the CMRL-Exalogic payoff case. The ruling follows a procedural finding that the parties involved had not been sufficiently heard by the High Court.

Legal experts and advocates, including former Union Minister P C Thomas, noted that while the investigation is temporarily paused, the First Information Report (FIR) against former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan remains intact and has not been invalidated. The case has been sent back to the Kerala High Court to allow for a division bench to hear all parties.

The decision has drawn varied political reactions. Leaders from the CPI(M) characterized the stay as a setback to what they described as a political witch-hunt by central agencies. Conversely, members of the Congress party suggested the Supreme Court's intervention was based on technical procedural irregularities rather than the merits of the case itself. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) may also pause its ongoing interrogation efforts pending further developments in the High Court.
