Supreme Court summons Arunachal chief secretary, home secretary over CBI probe of contracts tied to CM Pema Khandu

India's Supreme Court issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh and the Principal Secretary (Home) after a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) status report indicated the state government was not cooperating with a court‑monitored preliminary inquiry. The inquiry concerns alleged irregularities in the award of public‑works contracts, some reportedly linked to family members of Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

A bench led by Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta ordered the two senior officials to appear in person on August 24 with a response to the CBI report and to explain the alleged non‑cooperation. The probe covers contracts and work orders worth roughly Rs 1,270 crore awarded between January 1 2015 and December 31 2025 to four firms alleged to be connected to the CM’s family. The case stems from a public‑interest litigation filed by the Save Mon Region Federation and the Voluntary Arunachal Sena, and follows an earlier Supreme Court direction on April 6 that the CBI register a preliminary inquiry.
