Supreme Court to hear plea for CBI probe into JPSC exam irregularities

The Supreme Court of India is scheduled to hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on August 24 regarding alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025.

The petition, filed by social worker Harisharan Devgan, calls for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or an independent probe into the conduct and evaluation of the exam held on April 19, 2026. The plea follows controversy after the results were declared on July 2, triggered by a viral OMR answer sheet that allegedly showed a successful candidate qualified despite only attempting 48 out of 100 questions.

In addition to a CBI investigation, the petitioner is seeking the formation of an independent committee led by a retired Supreme Court or High Court judge from outside Jharkhand. The proposed committee would include experts in forensic science, cybersecurity, and OMR evaluation to audit the scanning, coding, and result-generation systems.
