Supreme Court to Receive Sealed Air India AI-171 Crash Findings in October

The Supreme Court of India will receive a sealed draft of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau’s (AAIB) final report on the AI‑171 Air India crash that killed 260 people near Ahmedabad. The report is scheduled for submission in the first week of October, with a further hearing set for October 13.

The AAIB told the court that the investigation follows international aviation protocols and includes accredited experts from countries of the victims, including the United States. Petitioners—including the Federation of Indian Pilots, the father of the deceased captain Sumit Sabharwal, and an NGO—have sought a court‑monitored probe and the inclusion of simulation exercises, which the Solicitor General confirmed have been conducted successfully.
